March is National Social Worker Month, a time to recognize the incredible impact social workers make in our communities every day.
With more than 700,000 social workers in the United States, these dedicated professionals are often the first to step in when individuals and families face crisis, mental health challenges, or barriers to stability. Working across schools, hospitals, community clinics, and social service organizations, social workers provide counseling, assess needs, develop care plans, and connect people with critical resources such as housing, food, and healthcare. As the largest providers of mental health services in the U.S., they serve as advocates, problem-solvers, and compassionate supporters for those who need it most.
At United Way of Ulster County, we are especially grateful for the social workers who partner with us through our HELPS Program. By assessing community membersβ needs and identifying pathways forward, social workers play a vital role in ensuring individuals and families receive the support necessary to improve their quality of life. When gaps arise that might otherwise prevent someone from moving forward, the HELPS Program helps bridge those barriers.
We celebrate their commitment to strengthening our community and creating opportunities for brighter futures. Thank you to all the social workers making a difference every day.
